coverage of the RNC.

Pretty cool experience just now. I logged into facebook and read through my friends’ status messages. Basically, I had coverage of the RNC from the hard-core right and left wings, and a few in betweens. Read on:

My friends’ status messages from the past few hours:
(names excised to protect friends who consulted in no way on this)

A… doesn’t know if she can stand to watch another minute of the RNC…
B… had her distaste for Republicans exacerbated tonight by Palin’s speech.
C… is sad that the trash of this nation actually thought that speech by palin was good.
D… couldn’t be more amused by the GOP convention.
E Sarah Palin…hmmm…
F…is saying Sarah Palin might be #45. You heard it here first.
G…is digusted with the RNC. (cursing excised).
H… =O…How dare you Palin…eeeks! haha.
I…is RNC! not bad!
J…will vote for mccain if sarah palin gets naked at the convention.
K…is tired of listening to her talk about obama.
L…wonders what’s next: a) Palin revealed as McCain’s love-child b) Palin revealed as alien c) McCain dumps Palin for Elvis.
M…really impressed by palin’s speech. she didn’t hold back. but should be one to talk about their opponents’ rhetoric…
N…is thinking Sarah Palin is talking a lot of shit for someone with no experience and a knocked-up unwed daughter.
O…this chick can give a speech.
P…is pretty sure the republicans are about to riot in MN.
Q…thinks McCain’s choice of Palin was brilliant…disingenuous but brilliant!
R…is impressed by Sarah Palin.
S…yahoo for not reading people their rights.
T…loves the signs that say ‘DRILL NOW’ and all this talk about ‘laying pipe’.

Fascinating stuff! Let’s start the FB status coverage of the convention meme. You go next…

Haha, it feels like you were at the convention yourself xD Nobody posted any stuff about the Democratic convention when it was going down?

It’s kinda a see-saw reaction from me – I agree that Palin knows how to deliver a speech, but as N says (in the first part of their comment anyway), she doesn’t really have the right to talk about all the stuff she said given her “inexperience”…she was describing all those people, yes, but why? Does *she* actually know them? How about quoting any good experiences of the Alaskans with John McCain/the Bush Administration? It would’ve been credible if she’d done so.

I also personally feel disgusted everytime they bring up that “bitter” thing about Obama. Not that I am leaning towards Obama (I liked him before but now he seems to have lost some of his former spark), but that “bitter” commentary was taken completely out of context, if not into an entirely different context all in all.

Tired of convention speeches being overhyped. Plain’s speech was pedestrian at best.

Obama’s was a good speech but definitely not as great as the media made it out to be. The event was historic which made his speech seem bigger and better than it is(in my opinion). But it was at the same level of his recent speeches like the “race” speech in Philly.

Bill Clinton’s sppech was pretty good as usual/expected.

Hillary’s speech was a bit bizzare. I love Hillary and still think that she would have made the best President of all the candidates in 08 but some of the things she said were just odd.

Love the fb comments - a real snapshot - ha!

From a Canadian perspective - I’m afraid this election is going to be a real horse race with a photo finish. US patriotism can be both blind and dangerous. I know it made the country, but it scares me how people blindly buy into political rhetoric. Sarah Palin is no dummy and she can talk. That is the scariest thing for me.

    A good politician for sure:

“Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown.

And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves.

I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a “community organizer,” except that you have actual responsibilities.”

Wow. That’s it. “Let me explain to them what the job involves.”

    and then…..

yeah politicians are kind of like illusionists. Once they distract you with something else, you forget that they were going to tell you something - like explaining what the job of a small town mayor involves.

I love the internet and TV - you can go back and see what they actually did not tell you :) Jon Stewart makes idiots out of politicians all the time by exposing their rhetoric - I love it.

Obama - you have your work cut out for you now - and I wish you well.
